Your profile photo is almost always shown as a circle, even when you upload a square. If your face sits near the edge of the square, the circle crop cuts off hair, ears, or half a forehead, and the photo looks careless. Cropping to a circle yourself, before you upload, is a one-minute fix.
Pick the right photo
Use a photo where your face is well lit, looking at the camera, with some space around your head. Group photos and far-away shots rarely survive a circle crop, because by the time the circle is small enough to fit, your face is a dot.
Crop it in a minute
- Open Circle Crop and upload your photo.
- Drag the circle so your face sits in the middle, with a little headroom above, not touching the edge.
- Download it with a transparent background, or pick a plain colour behind you if the app needs a square file.
Check the result at the size people will actually see it. A profile photo is usually a thumbnail, so if you cannot recognise yourself at that size, zoom in closer before you save.
One good circle photo works everywhere: LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and most other profiles that crop to a circle. Make it once, use it everywhere.
