How browser-based AI actually works
Modern browsers can run machine learning models directly using WebAssembly, which is a fast, sandboxed way to execute compiled code on a web page. The model file is fetched once and cached, then the actual work happens on your processor. The trade-off is that the first load takes a moment while the model downloads, and heavier models feel slower on an older phone than on a laptop. In exchange you get complete privacy and unlimited free use.

Being realistic about the limits
A model small enough to run in a browser will not match a large cloud service on the hardest cases. Background removal is excellent on a clear subject and less confident with fine hair against a busy backdrop. OCR is strong on printed text and weaker on cursive handwriting. For most everyday jobs the difference is invisible, and the privacy and cost advantages are real. Where a result is not quite right, retaking the photo with better light and a plainer background usually fixes it faster than any setting.
