Most people type somewhere between 40 and 60 words a minute and speak at around 150. For a first draft, a set of notes, or a long message, that gap is worth using. The text you get back will need tidying, but editing something that already exists is far easier than facing an empty page, and the ideas come out in a more natural voice than they usually do through a keyboard.

And keep the microphone reasonably close, because a laptop microphone across a desk picks up more room than voice.
